Mt. Hood in Evening Light

I couldn’t have asked for a better place to end my day after a series of long and difficult hikes around Mount Hood. The weather was hot with temperatures in the lower 90s and the sky was clear and bright, so naturally it wasn't the best day for photography. This moment and shot completely made up for a day full of hard work, sweat, and frustration.

Taken at Lake Trillium, we got to the lakeside pretty early to scout out the best spot to set up for sunset. A good half hour of wandering and searching led us to this spot: front row seats to a gorgeous spectacle of light hitting the peak of Mount Hood. This is what I would call the classical, quintessential, postcard landscape composition: interestingly shaped and varied boulders in the foreground, there was practically no wind to speak of, so the waters were calm and perfect for capturing a reflection of the mountain, and the tree line (and its reflection in the water) created an spectacular leading line, inviting your eye to the soft, warm light of sunset touching the face of Hood. This was truly a moment to remember and probably one of my favorite landscape images I’ve taken to date.
